Hello folks, I hope you are well. No doubt about the headliners today …let’s hear it for the Neebors across the water. The Fifers of Tayport did themselves and the Dundee Sunday Morning league proud with a magnificent 3-2 win over Livingston side Tower FC to move into the Semi Finals of the Scottish Sunday Amateur Cup. Stevie Lattimer and two goal Steve “Bambi” Smith were the men on target, but man of the match was Dean Rennie who turned in a majestic performance. The Fifers have quietly gone about their business in recent weeks and now have a huge chance of being the first Morning team since the legendary Dolphin side of 1988 to play in a national cup final. They play Falkirk side Hallglen next week and it will be played at either Glenesk Park Dundee or the ground of Camelon Juniors. The Blazers meet on Monday night to confirm the venue… Where do you think it will be played? I could be wrong but!!!!!!
If you are available next Sunday go along and give the lads a bit of support. I don’t know anything about Hallglen but you do not reach a national semi final without having some decent players. Oh and before you say Scottish… what is he talking about? I will repeat what I have said many many times before. The Scottish Cup is the worst competition to enter, but to win it is without doubt and by far the pinnacle of any amateur players career. All the best lads give it your all!!!!
Near neighbours of Tayport are Pilot Garage First Division club Cobbies, and they picked up three points with a 2-1 away win at Doc Ferrys. Docs led 1-0 at half time through a Ryan McBrertie goal but a second half double from Steven Grogan took the spoils back over the bridge. Blackness are in fine form of late, and another good 90 minutes saw a 3-1 win over FC Planet at Fairmuir. Neil “Hit Man” Harvey, Chris “Bee Gee” Small and Wayne “No 10” Lorimer all on the scoreboard.
Birkhill hit AFC Kokomo with a goal rush at Lochee Park. Marc Brownlie (4) Kevin Kelly (2) Jimmy Bell, Steven Brown and Marco Perez the goal heroes. Ferry Innter and Club 67 served up a five goal cracker at Claypotts. Paul Burns, Sean Tucker and Craig Wilkie hitting the target for Innter with Big Lee and Frankie Ireland for the Club. A good win for Innter which delighted manager Jimmy Anderson. Douglas Ath moved into the last eight of the McGuire Trophy with an emphatic 6-0 win over Angus Thistle. The Blue Man U were awesome as goals from Terry ’12 Stone ‘ Malone, Abby Joe B Rafiq, Andy Coogan on his return to the club and a brilliant treble from Terry “Smoothy” Gray, his first a brilliant finish to a great assist from Rikki “Red Card” Ferguson. A word of praise for the Jags young goalie Steven Williamson, who saved his side from a real going over.
Dundee Social got revenge for last weeks defeat from Michelin courtesy of a last gasp 3-2 win, to seal their place in the semi final of the Alex Smith Trophy. The Social only need to avoid a heavy defeat in their last section game with Tayport to top the section and play Harlequins in the Semi. Goals from Greg Lawson, Jamesie McCord and a last minute winner from Greg Burke.
All the best and take care... cheers, Alex.
